Calling Manchester United's loss to Coventry an embarrassment is 'a slap in the the face' to the Championship side.

That's according to talkSPORT Breakfast host Ally McCoist who was discussing Coventry's incredible comeback from 3-0 down to force extra time and penalties in the FA Cup semi-final where they ultimately lost.

Among the critics was former United captain Roy Keane, who called the team 'embarrassing' in his post-match analysis.

However, despite the upset that never was, it's important that Mark Robins' Coventry are given credit for their performance, former Scotland striker McCoist said.

“I don’t like the word ‘embarrassing’ because I think it’s disrespectful to Coventry," he told the nation alongside co-host Jeff Stelling.

“Should Manchester United be beating Coventry? Yes, of course and particularly if you’re 3-0 up with 18 minutes to go but to use the word ‘embarrassing’ is I think a slap in the face to Coventry who were absolutely magnificent."

Ten Hag, though, insists he was not embarrassed by the manner of the win, which saw muted celebrations from many of the players - except Antony - but acknowledged the 'got away with it'.

“It’s a funny one," McCoist continued. "I understand where Roy is coming from because for Man United it was really, really poor but at the same time I did the quarter-final game with Wolves and Coventry were excellent.

“They’ve got goals in their team – Simms, Haji (Wright) and O’Hare – who could play at that top level in the top flight.

“They were unlucky last year getting beaten by Luton in the play-off final [for promotion to the Premier League] on penalties so they’re a side who can more-than handle themselves.

“But from Man United’s point of view, dear me. That would have been unthinkable and it was so close with the disallowed goal to being one of the greatest FA Cup stories ever.”

Having missed out on a spot in the Premier League last season, Coventry are in the mix to finish in the top six again.

Currently nine points off the play-off spots with two games in hand, Robins will be hoping his team can take heart from their FA Cup semi-final display to squeeze into the promotion mix once again.
