Ex-Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and West Ham United man favourite for Grimsby Town job

Kevin Nolan is currently the front runner for the vacant Grimsby Town job.

The Mariners are in the hunt for a new manager to replace Michael Jolley, who was sacked on Friday after a poor run of form.

Names such as Anthony Limbrick, Robbie Stockdale and Paul Tisdale are in the running, though Nolan has emerged as the 5/2 favourite on SkyBet.

Nolan is a familiar name amongst English football fans after spells as a player with Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and West Ham United. He played over 600 games as a player and has since delved into management.

Nolan became the player-manager of Leyton Orient in January 2016 and was in that post for six months. He then took over Notts County in January 2017 and steered them away from relegation danger in his first season at the club.

He then guided the Magpies to the League Two Play-Offs last season in which they lost to Coventry City over two legs. Then after a winless run of six games at the start of the last campaign, Nolan was sacked.

He has been out of the dugout since August 2018 and has been linked with various job openings over the past year or so.

Nolan turned down the AFC Wimbledon job last season and appears to be waiting for the right opportunity. Could he move to Grimsby now?
