Bournemouth targeting swoop for Preston North End defender

Bournemouth have identified Preston North End defender Ben Davies as a potential January transfer target.

The Cherries see him as someone who fits their recruitment policy, according to a report by the Sun on Sunday (page 67, 17.11.19).

Davies, who is 24 years-old, has been linked with various Premier League clubs including Wolves, Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion after impressing so far this season with the Lilywhites.

The left-sided centre-back has played a key part in Alex Neil’s side rising into the automatic promotion places in the Championship. He can also play as a left-back if needed.

He was born in Barrow and joined the Lancashire side as a youngster before rising up through their youth ranks. He made his senior debut against Coventry City in a League One clash in January 2013 at the age of 17.

Davies was loaned out to York City, Tranmere Rovers, Southport, Newport County and Fleetwood Town to gain some first team experience in his early career.

He has gone onto make over 100 appearances for Preston but they will now face a major battle to hold onto his services this winter.

Davies is highly-rated by the Lilywhites and is believed to be valued at around £10 million with the likes of Bournemouth lurking.

Neil’s side will be desperate to keep hold of key players like Davies, Ben Pearson and Sean Maguire, but may have top flight clubs circling Deepdale in January with the way things are going.
