Blues and Hatters Linked With Newcastle Full-Back
Wednesday, 8th Jan 2020 00:29

Town and Luton are reported to be among a number of EFL clubs eyeing Newcastle United right-back Jamie Sterry.

According to the Newcastle Chronicle, the Hatters have been offered Sterry during this window, presumably on loan, while Town are said to have looked at the 24-year-old.

Newcastle-born Sterry is out of contract this summer and has not been given a squad number this season, although he has appeared for the Magpies’ U21s in the Leasing.com Trophy. Overall, he has made five cup starts and three Premier League sub appearances for his parent club.

In 2016/17 Sterry had a spell on loan at Coventry City, making 20 starts and scoring one goal, and spent time with Crewe Alexandra in the second half of the following two seasons but played only a handful of games.

A Town move for a right-sided full-back on loan during January wouldn’t be a big surprise with Kane Vincent-Young out until late February having undergone adductor tendon surgery in November and Janoi Donacien currently the only fit senior out-and-out right-back.

We have enough players to cover our defence, but need a Murphy type of centre forward and a real playmaker, and a Manager that can forget his past as a player, and learn to coach a team. Perhaps he had a better coaching team in the past? He, and the current one are not up to it.

Not interested. Look at his age and how few games he's played in his career. May as well keep using Cotter

Harlingblue we have bodies but not ones good enough hence we keep conceding. Donacien and Cotter not good enough so a short term loan till KVY is back makes sense.
We have playmakers. We have Bishop, Dozzell, Huws, Judge then you get ones like El Mizouni and Dobra. What we need is for one of them to be picked in the playmaker role and given a run of games.
I do wish we'd signed Murphy though

We need a left back so Garbut can push into midfield, as he is much better there. And a big lump of a forward who can hold the ball up.

Priority must be a couple of strikers.

We are desperate for two fullbacks and a right winger would be nice. Football is still a very simple game. You still need two solid lines of defence working as a unit whenever the opposition has the ball and you need width when you have the ball. Good teams have good partnerships all over the pitch. In central defence, central midfield and up front we have enough quality and experience to compete in league one. It is out wide where we are lacking. We currently have zero full backs or wing backs worthy of the name. You need two players working together down each flank both defensively and in attack. We just don't have that. That is one of the reasons we can't score and can't defend.

gosblue someone at last who see exactly why we are not a very good side.

More stodge. We need quality not more also rans. We have a squad full of players seemingly unable to step up and make the shirt their own. Any new faces need to come in and own a shirt and set a better example than those currently within the Club or there is no limit to how low we can sink. Conversely, we can soar with a couple of faces that know what it takes.....maybe Teddy/Freddie can be 1 or 2 of those?! Hope so as can't see ME spending in Jan/Summer/next Jan/following Summer/etc/etc

He is 24 and out of contract in the summer. If I was him I would want to move to a club where I would be first choice, not cover for an injured player, even if it meant dropping into League 2.

Cheers DM. I'm sure PL sees it too but he's been hamstrung by the hand he's been dealt and financial constraints. I'm hoping him signing a new contract is a sign that he's been made certain assurances.

Surely we need to off load players first. We have 43 players on our staff. For me that's far too many.We desperately need cover on the right side so looking at any possibility is a good thing.Just looking and reporting on it doesn't mean we are going to sign him. There will be plenty of paper talk over the coming month I'm sure.

No way we have enough players to cover defence, need a CB and RB

Totally agree with gosblue and afcfee, we need more than cover in defence, we need a solid defender who can help Woolfy grow. On top of that we need partnerships to develop by giving players a run, and trusting them to stay fit.

better to loan a Prem or Champ player while KVY gets fit
